Week In Review - 10/19 - 10/25

I can't say I've really been doing much gaming lately. I played a little bit of Hyrule Warriors and a bit of Mario Kart 8, but not for very long. I've been playing the ORAS demo, but I've already missed two days, so hopefully that playing every day crock was a load of nonsense. I'm beginning to play Theatrhythm again, because I need to go from my current score of around 13,000 to 40,000.

Aside from that I've backed two kickstarters - Elegy for a Dead World, which was funded on 10/21, and Animal Gods [Reborn], which ends on 11/8. I'm really looking forward to Elegy, which is based around writing fiction for the worlds you are journeying through.

Well, that's pretty much it.

Smash WiiU Direct & ORAS Demo

So last night, Nintendo livestreamed a 50 fact extravaganza for Smash WiiU and I have to say, the hype is real. Out of everything announced I have to say the three things that really stood out to me were

1. 8 Man Smash - because getting my butt kicked by three other players just wasn't enough. I actually think this will be really fun, especially when watching livestreams. I would say real life, but let's be honest here I don't have seven friends, let alone seven friends that game.

2. Bowser Jr and Koopalings Join the Battle trailers - Honestly, my favorite part about all the lead up to Smash are the Join the Battle. I just absolutely adore them and I'm actually excited that they will be in the full game because I'll just sit there and watch them all. I really liked this though, because it caused hype for characters we already knew about, while slightly misleading us for the new character announcement. Plus, the trailer is gorgeous and Bowser Jr kinda wrecked Mario.

3. Mewtwo confirmed - Look, I don't even care about Mewtwo in the slightest as a Smash character, but I think everyone got at least a little bit hyped when it was revealed that they were putting 'him' in the game. I also think it shows that Nintendo listens to fans at least a little, as they've been whining asking for Mewtwo to be back in Smash for a while now.

If you didn't catch it already, I really suggest watching the Direct if not only for how fantastic the Smash Announcer is. He's amazing, really.

Now for Pokemon. I got the ORAS demo code in the newsletter a few days ago and I have to say I am really disappointed. I completed the demo (having done all ten adventures that give you stuff) in less than thirty minutes and it was just kind of a let down. What really bothered me though was not the fact the I was forced to play as a guy, cause I don't really mind that. What bothered me was that my name was Orlando. ORLANDO. I don't even care that I couldn't name him myself, but at least name him Brendan. Orlando.... so dumb. And yeah everyone's bashing Mega Glalie, I don't really mind it. What I'm really hoping for is that since my favorite Pokemon, Gallade, gets a mega this game that my second favorite, Froslass, might eventually get one (seeing as Froslass is to Glalie, as Gallade is to Gardevoir.)

Holding out hope, man.

Does anyone know why the name Kakigori is allowed for Pokemon? That was originally what I was trying to name my Glalie, but it wouldn't allow it. Now it's named Blue Hawaii. I didn't really like it at first, but now it's grown on me.

Review - Hyrule Warriors

Released - 9|26|14
Platform - WiiU
Final Completion Time - Don't even know

Summary
Play as various Legend of Zelda characters and destroy all your enemies with combos of rage!

Opinions
Now, I've never played a Dynasty Warriors game, but if it's like this I really want to. You advance through the story playing as different characters from the LoZ series, even Ganondorf at certain points, and capture keeps whilst killing everything. You pretty much run around and combo everything and it's amazing. The story isn't anything special - defend Hyrule, defeat Ganon, save the day, and get rid of a scantily clad dark time sorceress (who you can now play as thanks to free DLC!)

I would say the real fun and challenge of the game comes from Adventure Mode, where you complete and try to A Rank challenges while finding secrets on squares of the original Zelda game. It seems really easy at first, but some of the challenges are a major pain to A Rank. You can find a lot of heart pieces and weapons through these challenges, plus its the only way to unlock for of the characters (Ruto, Agitha, Ghirahim, and Zant.)

Final Thoughts
The visuals are beautiful, the enemy models are kinda bad, and the music, as per usual, is amazing. I wouldn't say you're missing anything if you skip it, but as the fan fiction spin off LoZ fans have pretty always wanted I would still recommend it.

Score - 7.5/10

My current main is Sheik, she's really freaking fast and I really like her attacks. And does anyone else want Link's glorious scarf? I've been scouting Etsy for one and I might have found a pretty good one :D

Review - Persona 4 Arena

Released - 8|7|12
Platform - Arcade, PS3, Xbox 360

Final Completion Time - I don't know, I don't wanna hook up the PS3 to find out.
Final Clear Percentage - 100%

Summary
Just a short while after the murders in Inaba were solved, the Investigation Team find the Midnight Channel airing again! But this time, they're the contestants on a fighting grand prix led by none other than Teddie himself?! The Investigation Team dive into the world inside the TV once again and fight their way to victory and the truth.

Opinions
Now aside from playing a bit of the first one, Persona 4 Golden is the only Persona game I've played. Regardless of whether you prefer the 3rd or 4th entry, it can be agreed that these are pretty much the greatest RPGs out there. Persona 4 Arena (P4A) is a spin off sequel to the 4th that includes a few characters from the 3rd entry.

The fact that it's a fighting game definitely diverges from its more traditional RPG roots, but it tries not to sacrifice story by introducing a visual novel story layout. I'm gonna be honest -  if you don't like reading, don't play story mode. This is going to provide HOURS of text walls and you can't quick skip unless you've already seen the text before. And if you're trying to 100% story mode its going to be even worse.

To 100% story mode you not only have to complete all the character story lines (represented by a gold medal on the character card on the selection screen), but you'll have to stop and go with cliffhanger endings to do so. It pretty much goes like this - beat one of the initial characters to cliffhanger to unlock Teddie and Kanji, cliffhanger clear another character to unlock the Persona 3 characters plus Naoto, cliffhanger clear one the P3 characters to unlock Labrys, clear Labrys to unlock full clears of all the P4 characters minus Naoto, fully clearing one of those characters unlocks the full clear for the last four, and FINALLY full clearing one of the original four P4 characters and one of the P3 characters unlocks Elizabeth (who I recommend saving for last, as she kinda makes the story feel complete.)

Don't worry, you won't be done there because doing all that doesn't give you 100%. Nope, you have to also get the joke endings for Yukiko, Chie, and Kanji (I think Kanji's is the funniest.) You also have to pick both dialogue options at the end of Chie's joke ending and both dialogue options before you get to Kanji's joke ending. After that you have to complete two full runs with Yu, one with all the first options picked and one with all the second options picked. With all the first options picked, you will unlock a secret scene with Margaret at the end that you then have to pick both dialogue choices for. Then you should have 100%.

It sounds more time consuming then it actually is, I'll admit as you can skip to the cliffhangers of the ones you've already unlocked and well placed bookmarks can save you a ton of work, but it's still pretty ridiculous. And the only thing you get for doing this is the 100% on the story mode character select screen. No trophy or anything else. Kind of a bummer, yeah?

I don't think the story is too bad in P4A and it's far better than DOA5 I can say, at least. The only thing is that the victor is always whatever character you're playing as, so there is no concrete canon story line (though I've heard that the manga adapts Yosuke's story, which I'm okay with.)

Final Thoughts
This has been going on for a while, so I'll say this - P4A is one of the best and most fun fighting games I've ever played. It's accessible for veterans of the genre and newcomers alike. The visuals are great, the music is fan-freaking-tastic, and in general it's just a good ride.

Score - 8/10

~ Zephyr♥

I love the Grand Prix contestant cutscene so much that I have it pretty much memorized, and though I skipped all the other cutscenes after seeing them once, I always let that one play. Because really how much fun is it to introduce Yu as the Sister Complex Kingpin of Steel? Also, Naoto is my favorite character in P4. Naoto♥

Week In Review: 10/5 - 10/11

Well, there wasn't much gaming this week because I was too busy being stressed out by school. But you know what? It doesn't matter anymore because I am done with college. I don't know if I'll go back next year for my bachelors or what, but for now I'll be getting my AA and be done with it.

Gaming wise, just messed with Smash 3DS a bit and restarted my Pokemon Y game with a male character, because why not? Not really much going on. I really need to work on adventure mode in Hyrule Warriors and start P4AU. But that's about it.

Oh! Kickstarter! I backed my fourth game, The Flame in the Flood, here. Check it out! And if you just so happened to be interested in the other three I backed they're Moon Hunters, Phoenix Dawn, and CodeSpells.

How has your gaming been?

Zeldathon Relief

I don't know if you guys have ever head of Zeldathon, but it is truly amazing. It's a long ass charity gaming marathon with crazy shenanigans and just lots of awesome stuff all around. It's starts on December 27th and if you can spare even a single penny, give it to these guys (and girls) and know that it is going to a good cause.

Love you nerds!

Tablet Practice - MC Fan Doodles

I've been drawing fan doodles for MC's Oracle of Ages series. It's actually quite fun and gives me a reason to mess around with tablet on broken photoshop. I've gotten a couple of them in episodes too, which is super beyond rad, plus shouts in the description. Super rad. Here are the ones I've done so far.

Really need to remember to add sigs or something to them. Not that anyone would actually want to claim crappy fan art, but hey, you never know.

Week In Review : 9/28 - 10/4

This week saw the release of not only Super Smash Bros for 3DS on Friday, but also the release of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. If you picked up P4AU, don't forget to download the free characters Adachi and Marie before they get a price tag. Both these characters come with unlockable chapters in story mode.

Aside from releases, I finished legend mode on Hyrule Warriors (released last Friday) and am slowly working my way through adventure mode. I also started playing The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds after realizing that I had never played it and its been sitting in my game card case for months. I've only made it past the Eastern Palace as I made the folly of starting it right before picking up Smash, but I hope to finish it within the next week or two.

Also, I've been playing with all the different characters in Smash, trying to decide who to main. I haven't played Brawl in forever and I just overall suck at Smash so I want to pick one character to really learn with.

What have you guys been playing and who do you usually main in Smash?
