Hiatus In Review?

Welp! I think I'm getting up to Gravity Falls levels of hiatus, so I should prolly write something now. Excuse how long and rambly this will get :D

I guess I should start off with just all the nonsense that's been going. I have, so to speak, undergone a series of unfortunate event. As you may know, right before I left over spring break my hard drive decided to explode. Got that fixed and got stuff done over the break. I got home only to have the cable and internet go out at the same time (due to different problems) and people come to fix the cable pretty quickly. The internet was out for a fucking week. A WEEK! Like, what? A supervisor who came to see if they needed to bring one of the big trucks (for a second time) ended up coming in after I said that the first guy didn't. I think I got that other guy fired because apparently the whole problem was like a faulty connector that should have gotten change regardless because they've been changing out the wiring at all the customers' houses so this wouldn't happen.

After that load of crap, I started having really bad stomach pains over the course of a month that went something like this - 1. Pulled muscle that caused stomach pain 2. Thought it had something to do with my belly button so I messed with that 3. Got a stomach flu which, combined with pain, made it so I couldn't keep anything down 4. Got a CT scan 5. After getting through the flu my belly button freaked out from either an abscess that also caused my stomach pain or an infection from messing with it in the first place 6. After a few days of being normal, I got a bad cold that made my brain implode. 7. Now I need to lose weight cause I'm pretty sure a pseudo-tumor is making me go blind :D

Off of all that nonsense, I have of list of things I wanted to mention and such so here's that.

- I'm finally going to the Symphony of the Goddesses concert :DDDDD
- I've also started writing again, like actual story writing and it's actually going okay.
- MC Gamer is over on Twitch completing all the Zelda games for Every Zelda in April - check it out here!
- I watched a video off all the MKX fatalities and I really wish I had a reaction video of it but it mostly consisted of "oh god, why? why would you do that? why do all of you need to rip of limbs and heads? that's unrealistic. my body hurts. PLEASE STAHP."
- A sequel to the super baller game Project X Zone is being made and I am super excited about it.

Other things that have been going on this week that I wanted to mention.

- I charged my tablet finally which means that I have inevitably been sucked back into reddit, specifically the Gravity Falls subreddit
- GF is literally taking over my life
- It's too good!
- And everyone's fan art is amazing to the point of unfairness
- There was something else I was gonna say, but I forgot

Well, that's all I got - but because I love you guys I want to leave you with this baller tumblr GF comic with my new favorite song that I listened to prolly 80 times on repeat last night and it will never leave my head which I think I'm okay with.

So read it with the music playing!

Review - The Sims 4

Released - 9|2|14

Platform - PC (Origin)

Create characters and control their lives! From careers and personalities to families and living spaces, its all up to you to make sure they don't kill themselves by setting a fire when they're chopping vegetables.

I tried to play the Sims 3 back when it was released in an Origin Humble Bundle along with a couple of pieces of DLC. It wasn't bad, but I just never got really super in to it. I decided to give Sims 4 a chance. I don't regret it. I don't know why it sucked me in this time. Maybe it was because I created a bunch of characters instead of letting my Sim date the pre made losers, maybe it's because I've created woven storylines for the characters, maybe its because my Sim had twin boys on the first try (and now I don't know if they are still there because I haven't redownloaded it since my hard drive died :D) but this time around I am definitely invested.

I really love the more colorful and cartoonish look of the Sims this time around. The entire interface feels really clean to me actually. And they gave us pools for free! I know the Sims revolves around lots and lots of paid DLC, but I'm not judging that - I'm only looking at the core game. And to be honest, it feels a bit sparse. Especially in the character customization department. Just compare the bare minimum of hairstyles in the third entry to the current one and you'll see what I mean.

Final Thoughts
The Sims 4 is far from a bad game, but it does feel like an incomplete one. But I still think you should play because it truly is lots of fun.

Score - 7.8/10 too much DLC

~ Zephyr ♥

But seriously though, the amount of money you have to spend on DLC for these games is absolute insanity. And we still pay for it! We all gone cray cray.

Top Ten - Kingdom Hearts Songs

Kingdom Hearts is one of my favorite series of all time. I absolutely adore these games and the music in them just make it an infinite amount better. So how could I not share my top ten KH songs with you? You know how much I love sharing music by now, don't you?

10. Sora

This song just screams character theme, even if you don't know the game. It perfectly matches Sora's upbeat can-do attitude and is such a good fit that its ridiculous.

9. Roxas

Roxas' theme is such a beautifully lonely counterpart to Sora's theme. It really speaks for the character and his purpose in the game, making it one of my favorite character themes period.

8. Reviving Hollow Bastion

Hollow Bastion is one of my favorite worlds to visit because of this song. Its the kind of song that just really gets me immersed in the game for some reason.

7. A Very Small Wish

Now I'll be honest and admit that the piano version of this is one of the reasons I love this song. But I became so attached to the piano version that when I played again and heard this song it carried the same kind of 'nostalgia' feeling as when I hear the piano version.

6. Lazy Afternoons/Sinister Sundown

I'm sorry, but I couldn't decide between the two! So take them both! Lazy Afternoons, the theme for Twilight Town, has more personal place on this list because it always makes me think of growing up and where I live. Just feeling the heat from the setting sun on a summer evening, sitting outside watching the dogs play - this very much feels like a 'me' theme. Sinister Sundown, however, is the opposite. The battle theme in Twilight Town brings about that more rushed or urged feeling, like I need to get something done now. It's also one of my favorite battle themes in the series.

5. Sanctuary

I love the main themes for these stupid games and if the version of Simple and Clean that they use in the games wasn't so fast and catchy, I would probably prefer this one. But oh well. They are both absolutely fantastic.

4. Simple and Clean -PlanitB Remix-

I pretty much explained it above.

3. Organization XIII

If you read what I said about Roxas' theme and you know how much I love these melancholy sounding songs, then you really shouldn't be even remotely surprised that this is on the list.

2. Missing You

A sad theme that breaks your heart and is a piano theme too? Count me in.

1. Dearly Beloved

To be honest, I tried to not make this number one. I tried to not even put it on the list. And it seems crazy, but I just kept thinking "its too simple, its the series theme, there are so many good songs in this series, why is this little song the best one?" And I can't really give you an answer. It just is. But isn't that what a series theme is supposed to be, the best? This little song, that changes so much while staying the same, is absolutely perfect. Really, it is. To me, it is. This song has gotten me through a lot. Not just sad stuff, but its followed me through hurt, sickness, happiness, suffering, and even love. It has become a song that makes me think of my 'dearly beloved' for as cheesy as that seems. But I'm okay with that. I'm okay with that.

~ Zephyr ♥

Here's the piano theme I was talking about. If you like it you should listen to the piano albums (there's two.)

Review - Pokemon Shuffle

Released - 2|18|15

Platform - 3DS

Sure, Nintendo wasn't really for making mobile. But hey, that won't stop them for making a freemium match three on the 3DS!

Look, I know how people feel about freemium games, the love-hate relationship that seems to follow all mobile games in fact. And to be honest, these match three games are all kinda the same - fun for while, frustrating when you lose, and shake those without patience down for money. And I'm not saying this is different. But I kinda like this game. Saying that, I only play about once a week, but still I find it to be an enjoyable experience. And the gameplay differs slightly in that as long as you can make a match, you can move between pieces anywhere on the board, not just those side by side.

Final Thoughts
Its not anything special, but if you like these kinds of games or are just stuck in a waiting room, give this game a try.

Score - 5/10

~ Zephyr ♥

Its really hard to give games a score sometimes. You know like this isn't a crappy game, just simple and little unoriginal (okay, a lot), but it's still fun. It's not broken or anything. *sigh* Scoring systems can be a bit convoluted and counter-intuitive at times.

Update/ Remodeling, Travel, And Hard Drive Explosions

Hey, guys. Wow, I really am the worst, huh? Welp, I guess I'll start laying the excuses on ya.

I've said before, but I'll say it again - there's been remodeling going on in my house since the beginning of February and they are only just now wrapping up. Its been loud, filthy, and stressful. I haven't been able to eat home made food in a month and eating out a lot makes you feel sluggish. Plus, your feet are always covered with plaster dust. I finally got to clean, mop, and unpack everything last week, but there's a bit more drywall that needs to go up. Its also very hard to work when anywhere you can work has been taken over and covered in dishes and dust. Honestly, I've mostly been sitting in the garage with the dogs where I binge watched all of Steven Universe (watch it and Gravity Falls now) and playing Hyrule Warriors and Wind Waker HD on the Wii U.

Travel wise, well I'm up visiting Dae for the week so this is the first I've really been able to sit at my computer and this is only because I got ditched at the library, haha... I had to come up the week after Dae's spring break so my sister could stay home with the pups (she's on her break now). It's really weird being on a campus after ten months off one and going to class after four months of being out (I finished my AA in October). But yeah, after going to a physics class where I understood nothing, even though I'm pretty sure its all stuff I aced in Astronomy a year and half ago (who knew?), and eating lunch I got ditched so Dae could go to the Rec Room because they wouldn't let me in because I'm not a student here, even though they let other non students in. Can you tell I'm a little salty?

Anyways, the biggest problem is the most recent one. I went to use my computer on Thursday and it wasn't working right (taking ten minutes to do anything, literally), so I thought I had a virus or something. NOPE. My freaking hard drive died (RIP in peps) and they didn't have any in stock so I got lucky enough to have my mom get one the next day and a really awesome dude to fix it. He tried to clone it, but it was being a derg and not having it so he tried to move stuff over. Luckily, all my music went over. Unfortunately, I lost over 200+ gigs of crap. SIGHHHHHHH. So annoying!

But I did get all my crap re-planned out to the end of May (cause that always works, right?) and I'm already starting work so yeah! Making it work! Have to finagle with Vladimir (my laptop) so much now! YIP FREAKING SKIP! :D

I love you. Bye.

Week In Review 2/15 - 2/21

The actual demo of my kitchen started a couple days ago so not only is the mess of everything driving me crazy and stressing me out, but we also have to go out for just about every meal because the only thing plugged in is the fridge. My family has something against me eating leftovers for breakfast, I guess. The kitchen will still take another week or two to complete, though, with the cabinets getting installed this coming week and then the counters whenever they come.

Eating out so much for the past month has left me feeling really sluggish and fatigued, too. I'm already thinking up some new recipes to make once the kitchen is complete. I need that home cooked food, man. My's crying...

I started reading a new manga called Wild Life that's pretty good and I also downloaded the new 3DS Pokemon game Pokemon Shuffle - a microtransaction match 3 game - but I'm having fun with it.

Oh! I finally made it to a live show of Hyrule Academy, the SuperMCGamer hosted LoZ lore radio show over at Radio Hyrule. I was kinda nervous at first, to be honest, because while a lot of people contribute theories and such during the show I can't really do that since I don't know as much about it. But, one of the few things I did say actually got read on the show and was right! I know its really lame to be excited over something like that, but I really love it!

Ah, I'm so lame haha.

Week In Review 2/1 - 2/7

Chillin' With The Bros//Amphibious

Once again, I don't remember much of what happened last week. I haven't really gotten more than four hours of sleep each night for the past week, so without my precious delta I'm pretty dead. I don't recall playing much of anything this week. The house will still be in for a couple more weeks so it's kinda hard to get much of anything of interest done. Plus, my little sister was home sick the past week so I didn't have much time to myself to be productive. *read - various excuses* I am actually planning on playing a couple things the next few days, though, so you can check the play box if you're interested in that. Other than that..... Nope, I think that's the gist of it.

Basically, I'm really damn tired! *hysterical laughter* Ahem, good night :D

Review - Bayonetta 2

Released - 10|24|14

Platform - Wii U

Because we all know you didn't get enough of her in the first game, get ready for a sequel that is literally better in every way.

So look, I'm not the biggest fan of the first game. Maybe it's because I was in a bad and super ragey and I just need to replay it. Maybe it's because I didn't play it when it first came out. I don't know, but I'll tell you one thing - I don't feel the same about this one.

Bayonetta 2 follows the same formula as the first - shoot and beat things up, string it into massive combos, and watch the gore unfold. And it works. The sequel polishes everything the original offered, making Bayonetta's combos flow in an absolutely graceful way. Dodging at the last second gives you Witch Time, slowing down time and rewarding you with combo carnage. It seems much more rewarding than in the previous game. The new addition to fighting is the Umbran Climax, a full magic bar move that powers you up and then unleashes a demon summon. This provides more range than the Torture moves and is overall just a better, allowing you to take utter command the second your bar is full.

Don't get me wrong, this game is still brutal. Unlike the first game. the action hardly ever stops here and it sure doesn't give you much time to catch your breath. And the unrelenting battles mixed with the still ridiculously cheesy story give it just the right amount of juxtaposition to make it right. And when you beat the campaign there are still plenty of challenges and an online co-op mode for you to complete. Plus, the ability to have an AI bot do co-op with you is much appreciated, especially by those whose friends haven't gone to the Wii U yet.

Final Thoughts
Everything in this game is colorful and beautiful designed, from the characters to the gameplay to the environments. It's polished to perfection and it may have just reached the pinnacle of action games. For now, anyways.

Score - 9.5/10

~ Zephyr ♥

Look, I understand that a lot of people don't care about the amount of sexualisation in these games. I know people will think I'm either a prude or a hypocrite with the amount of anime I watch. And I get where people are coming from when they say it empowers her. I am all for women being sexy badass motherf**kers who own it. And that's what Bayonetta does! I think her existence as the boss MC in this proves it. So why do we need to see crotch shots and the like? Because in my opinion that sure as hell does not empower her. And it really sucks because she is like embodiment of sexy female empowerment in games.

Top Ten - Final Fantasy Characters

Guys, I know! We went a whole week without Final Fantasy and now you need your fix! Yeah, I'm sorry, I promise we'll move away from FF for while after this! But before, here are my top ten favorite FF characters.

10. Cid Highwind from Final Fantasy VII

Cid is a reoccurring character throughout FF games, generally being some kind of NPC. And though Cid Raines from XIII is totally gorgeous, Highwind's attitude really takes the top Cid place for me. He's a snarky hot headed chain smoker that had his dreams crushed, but doesn't turn into cold hearted asshole because of it. I find him to probably be the most relatable character in the game.

9. Vincent Valentine from Final Fantasy VII

Yes, I have a thing for the dark, brooding, mysterious guy. But not Cloud, only Vincent. I don't know why really. I mean, his game was terrible and his backstory, though filled with tragedy, isn't that great either. Hmmm....I think this explains a lot about my Sonic list..........

8. Rikku from Final Fantasy X

Rikku is carefree, reckless, and just a generally upbeat person. She always tries not to let things get her, but underneath she's really just full of insecurities like the rest of us. She's really relatable and honestly the kind of person I would want to be friends with.

7. Tidus from Final Fantasy X

Tidus is lot like Rikku, personality wise. I love Final Fantasy X as much as I do because of him and if he wasn't the MC I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much. Let's just disregard that horrible laughing scene, the audio drama, and that god awful book that ruined everything :)

6. Terra Branford from Final Fantasy VI

I love Terra. I just do. I love seeing her going from a scared and confused girl to a courageous and determined young woman. I love seeing her question her own humanity and come to terms with what she is. Final Fantasy VI was the first game I played that had characters with serious character development and Terra has always stuck with me in that regard.

5. Locke Cole from Final Fantasy VI
FFTS Locke

Much like how Terra was the first character that ever showed me growth, Locke was the first character to absolutely break my heart. In his backstory, he wants to prove himself to the father of the girl he loves. Instead, an accident causes the girl to get amnesia. After an Imperial attack, the girl is killed, but not before regaining her memories and declaring her love for Locke. He lives with this guilt and tries to redeem himself by protecting every women he meets. He later tries to revive her by using the Phoenix esper. It works, but she tells him to stop feeling so guilty before dying again. Through this he finds redemption and then I can finally ship him with Celes :3 I mean come on, its practically canon.

4. Yuna from Final Fantasy X

Yuna is a character I, again, love because of the way we get to see her character change and grow. She's kind and loyal, but also very naive and willing to sacrifice herself just because she thinks it will help others. You see her begin to question everything she knows and start to give herself and her desires more value. Even in X-2, you see how she has become more like Tidus and Rikku and how they have rubbed off on her. And while I love the development of characters like Terra and Locke, Yuna's seems much more natural and similar to how a lot of us act after being with friends and such.

3. Zack Fair from Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core

You can tell I love heart break, right? Well, I don't! Crisis Core is like the worst kind of game. You come in knowing that Zack is gonna die. All of Cloud's character in VII revolves around Zack's death. But even in the end, when you're fighting through his final battle you're still like "maybe I can make it!" No, no you f**king can't. And it hurts so damn bad. Zack is a better character in general than most of the ones in the entire FF franchise. And he dies saving that butt from VII. It makes me so angry! But mostly it just makes me cry. Every. Time.

2. Balthier (Ffamran mied Bunansa) from Final Fantasy XII

Balthier is very much the "charming thief with a heart of gold." And I adore him for it. He's cocky, he's cynical, and he very much thinks that the game is his story. He's just....he's amazing. And I love him. That's all there is to it.

1. Lightning (Claire Farron) from Final Fantasy XIII

This really isn't much of a shock, is it? Final Fantasy XIII is one of my favorite games, so it kinda makes since that she would be my favorite, right? I know a lot of people don't like. Maybe I just get her character because I have a younger sister, too. She does what she thinks is right, what she thinks she needs to do, to save her sister and doesn't let anyone or anything stop her. Not even fate.

So those are my favorite Final Fantasy characters. Some may have surprised you, but I'm sure a lot of them didn't. So let me know, what are your favorite Final Fantasy characters?

~ Zephyr ♥

I like Terra with green hair. So adorable :3 Who ever did this fan art, I love you.

Review - Mario Kart 8

Released - 5|30|14

Platform - Wii U

If you didn't lose all your friends after that weekend you spent playing Monopoly, Mario Party, and Smash than get ready to rid yourself of those stragglers!

I'm not really a fan of racing games, but I'm sure most people would agree that Mario Kart is an exception. And there's a reason why. This game is good.

This is probably my favorite entry in the series thus far. It is absolutely gorgeous, has a great soundtrack, and is just really fun! The big gimmick of this installment are the anti-gravity portions of the track and I really like this as an addition. By utilizing the anti-gravity, you can sometimes take varying paths on a course or bounce off of the other competitors to gain a speed boost.

Final Thoughts
I mean look, there really isn't much you can say about a Mario Kart game. It's a good time. The online is much better than the previous game on the Wii, but its just as fun to fun split screen with some friends on the couch. If you're new to the series or just haven't been around for a while, this is a great installment to get started with.

Score - 8/10 (get it? cause it's the eighth one!) 9/10

~ Zephyr ♥

Guys, I'm sorry...but I love puns too much! Yes! I'm that person that laughs at dumb jokes! I couldn't even describe Left Shark to my parents without cracking up! He's my spirit animal! Well, prolly not...but maybe! Exclamations!!!

Week In Review 1/25 - 1/31

GUYS GUYS GUYS! There are two Friday the 13th's in a row! Like, what!? I love Friday the 13th because one - 13 is my favorite number, and two - I was born on Friday the 13th! It's like I'm such bad luck that I'm good luck. But really I think I used up a lifetime of bad luck in ninth grade so I should be getting some good luck any day now! Any day now.........

Anyways, I don't really think I did much this week. I know I was getting green over all the people that weren't me because they weren't stuck at home and were instead having fun at Pax South and MagFest and I just really want to go to a con or something. *sigh* Life sucks when you don't have friends, money, or a driver's license.

Anyways, game wise...I don't really remember what I played. I know I started playing Shattered Crystal, but I didn't get that far.

I don't know, things have just been kinda hectic around here. I don't remember if I mentioned this before but the main water pipe in the kitchen has been leaking for a while causing a horrible mosquito problem in the house. We didn't know about the leak until it started to come out from under the dishwasher and now our kitchen is half ripped up and we have to rip out all the cabinets. You would think not having access to a dishwasher and stove wouldn't be so bad, but it is. I mean the dishwasher doesn't really matter, just a mix of hand washing and paper/plastic for other stuff. But the stove... I didn't realize it, but literally everything uses the stove. It sucks because we can't fit enough frozen stuff in the freezer and eating out almost every night gets pricey. I don't know, it's all very stressful to be honest so I haven't really been able to focus on anything.

I had an 1/8 life crisis over a jelly fluffernutter yesterday.

But yeah, I got all my late posts done and get all of Feb planned out so its good to go!

I hope y'all had a good week ^_^

~ Zephyr ♥

OH! One thing I forgot! So I spent a lot of time reading webcomics on Tapastic the past two weeks and I wanted to share two in particular with you guys. The first is one I binged in about 11 hours called The Pirate Balthasar that has action, romance, and just a really good story. It updates daily and you can read it here. The other one is a beautiful wordless series for us gamers called My 8 Bit Story about a girl who travels through old Game Boy games and you can 'read' that here.

Review - Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix

Released - 12|2|14

Platform - PS3

Play through the previously Japan only Final Mix editions of Kingdom Hearts II and Birth By Sleep updated with beautiful HD graphics.

Look, there is no way that this won't be a biased review. This is literally a single disc with my two favorite games on it. KHII is first, BBS is a close second. I love these games and this series to death. Also, since this is pretty much 2.5 (see what I did there?) games put together, this will have more abrupt reviews than usual.

Kingdom Hearts II is the main title sequel and the fifth game chronologically. It picks up two years after Chain of Memories and follows Sora, Donald, and Goofy as they search for Riku, unlock and lock a bunch of worlds' keyholes, and beat up Organization XIII members. This game is a bit easier than the other games in the series. Flaw-wise, it has you going to each world at least twice and unless you're healing magic is pretty useless. Neither of those things bother me, but I can see why there flaws. The biggest flaw in my opinion is the long ass tutorial. I understand it has story and stuff and I love KH's story, but seriously it is boring and unnecessarily long.

The big differences between the original game and those found in the Final Mix version are as follows - Critical mode (harder than Proud), new story scenes, new drive called Limit Form with the growth ability Dodge Roll, a new collection side quest, 20 new bosses, and new abilities and equipment.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep is the main title prequel - Kingdom Hearts 0, if you will- and the first game chronologically. Taking place ten years before Kingdom Hearts, BBS follows Terra, Ventus, and Aqua - three young keyblade wielders who have to deal with the appearance of the Unversed in various worlds. While having similar combat style to the other games in series, BBS has the use of the command deck. The deck holds either physical moves or magic, in contrast to the magic bar in other games. Worlds are revisited in this game, but as different characters in each of the three storylines.

The big differences between the original game and those found in the Final Mix version are as follows - Critical mode, new quest, new commands and command style, new command board, new d. link, new race track, new beat song, new keyblades, new bosses, and a new playable secret scene.

The Re: Coded movie is...meh. I mean, Re: Coded isn't a great game as it so you would prolly only like the movie if you're a big KH fan.

Final Thoughts
Like I said, these are my favorite games ever, but I also think that newcomers and skeptics alike will enjoy this game duo. Seriously, just give it a chance.

Score - 9.5/10

~ Zephyr ♥

Well, I didn't give it a ten because of the movie mainly. I would prolly give KHII a 8-8.5 and BBS a 9 separately. Though BBS gets a higher rating because I don't think it has as many flaws as KHII, KHII is still my favorite ^_^

Top Ten - Challenger Approaches Reveals

One of my favorite things about all the Smash reveals, directs, and just hype in general were the 'A Challenger Approaches' character reveals leading up to the Wii U release. I think this started with the reveal of Snake in Brawl (though I didn't keep up with the gaming scene back then), but they just really went with it for this Smash. And I absolutely love it.

10. Comet Observatory - Rosalina and Luma

I love seeing the karters just going at it on Rainbow Road only to be interrupted by Kirby flying by. I think DK's reaction to Kirby is funny and let's be real, Luma and Kirby playing together is adorable.

9. Wii Fit Trainer

I know when this trailer first showed during E3 2013 everyone was pretty skeptical. I was instead just laughing at the fact that Link could barely hold a tree pose better than me (I'm terrible at yoga.)

8. Challenger from the Shadows - Charizard, Greninja, and no Mewtwo

Watching the Smash Direct come to a close, I knew it couldn't end without a reveal and I really enjoyed the one that we got. Most of enjoyment, however, came from the following video. You may want to turn down your volume.

It still cracks me up *wipes away tear*

7. One Bird, One Dog, One Zapper - Duck Hunt

I love seeing the transition from all the classic sprites to their current form. Plus, the dog shields his eyes from Naked Shulk.

6. Champion of the Ring - Little Mac

I really like that they went with this comic like art style for the reveal, I feel it adds a lot to the reveal besides the one mechanic that everyone hates Little Mac users for.

5. Looks like we don't have a choice - Shulk

BACK SLASH! I'm really feelin' it! Also, Naked Shulk.

4. By Book, By Blade, and Crest of Flame - Lucina and Robin

Another one I like for art style. Its really just a good trailer.

3. The Future King - Bowser Jr and Koopalings

As the last in the reveal trailers (unless there's a Mewtwo trailer *crosses fingers*) I like that it features some of the previous revealed characters, Mega Man and Rosalina specifically. And if you didn't notice, not only does Bowser Jr. kinda own all of them, but he freaking runs Mario over. Just saying.

2. Mii Fighter

I don't know about you guys, but seeing this fight just cracked me up. Its so overly ridiculous, I love it. Sorry Reggie, but Iwata always wins.

1. Goddess of Light - Palutena (and Dark Pit, kinda)

What can I say? I'm an anime fan and this just made me want a Smash one. I love seeing the talkative Pit up against silent hero Link. And you know - "Black Hole! Mega Laser!" Saying your attacks out loud make them at least ten times more effective.

So what was your favorite reveal trailer? And who do you main in Smash?

~ Zephyr ♥

I personally main Pit/Dark Pit. Pit was who I mained in Brawl, but I like him more in this one. Regardless, I'm a pretty suck Smash player. I was playing with Dae and one of our friends and the only time I won was when I was playing Peach on a random select. I guess I should start learning her.

Review - Bayonetta

Released - 10|24|14 (1|5|10)

Platform - Wii U (PS3, Xbox 360)

A witch must fight her way through hordes of heaven's finest to uncover her lost memories and find the Eyes of the World.

This game is a bit weird for me. I don't know if its because I made me super frustrated or because I was trying to rush through it, but as someone who really cherishes the narrative value of a game (meaning I like plots) I just didn't really care. Once you get to the more or less 'big reveal' in the story, I don't know I just kinda lost interest.

That's not to say the game is bad or anything because it is not. The combat is really fun and some of the most enjoyable I've played in a while. It's mainly just about chaining combos, summoning demons with your hair, and dodging to activate Witch Time. And I love it. What I don't really care for are all the quicktime button mashes, but I can deal cause they don't really bother me that much unless they cause a cheap death. What does bother me is how absurdly hard the timed events were, at least for me. They seemed to be the leading cause of death. But aside from that, it really is lots of fun.

What I didn't really like is the amount of sexuality shoved into my eyeholes at every given chance. Look, we all know that Bayonetta is damn sexy and I'm alright with that. I'm not okay with the fact that it mainly turns into blatant amounts of fan service that make me uncomfortable playing when other people are in the house. Even understanding people, even people who play games. And that leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

Final Thoughts
I feel like I made this sound like a bad game when it really isn't even close to one. It's just one of those kind of games, I guess. This game is fun, but it's damn hard. And I was playing on normal difficulty. Good luck.

Score - 7/10

~ Zephyr ♥

I don't really think that my score would change if I took my time playing, but then again this game is pretty fast paced so it doesn't really lend itself to 'taking your time'. But seriously, go try this game out.

Top Ten - Songs from Final Fantasy Spin Offs

We have finally reached the end of the FF Song series!

10. The Troops' Advance from Dissidia

Dissidia is a cool game. Duodecim is a super rad amazing game. I feel that this theme captures the essence of both.

9. Raffaello Battle from Chocobo Dungeon

We all know that Battle on the Big Bridge is an amazing song. This is the orchestral version that makes my brain melt into music induced joy.

8. The Price of Freedom from Crisis Core

This song is literally Crisis Core. If you haven't played it, I highly recommend it - even if you aren't a FFVII fan (I'm not.)

7. One Winged Angel -Advent- from Final Fantasy VII Advent Children

I mentioned before that there was a reason One Winged Angel wasn't included in the main game list. This is why. Now technically this is from a movie, but seriously this version of the song just sweeps me off my feet. So epic.

6. Across The Divide from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles

I love this song and I can't really explain why. The only thing I can think to say is that it's so different from what I'm used to listening to, but that's not really it. I don't know, I just really really really like this song.

5. Historia Crux from Final Fantasy XIII-2

I feel like if my life had world map music, I would want at least part of it to sound like this.

4. Somnus from Final Fantasy XIII Versus

I put this on the spin off list for two reasons. One - because it was originally stuck with this title and when I made this list I didn't really think about it as XV now. Two - I didn't want to include XV in the main titles because I haven't gotten to listen to the soundtrack yet and it didn't really seem fair to include it. But I really love this song so I wanted to include it anyways, so I figured why not here. It's like this weird song that's really calm and beautiful, but the words are kinda tragic. And in Latin, of course.

3. Sound of the Wind (Morning Sky) from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles

There was just really no way I wouldn't love this song.

2. War: The White Weapon from Final Fantasy Type-0

Honestly, this song gets me way more excited for the NA release of Type-0 then anything.

1. The Glittering City of Yusnaan from Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII

Guys, this song I just.... GAH! I don't even know what this is even like supposed to be it just makes me happy and it sounds amazing and I just don't even!

Well then, on that note this ends the Top Ten Final Fantasy Song series. I know I prolly have a really weird list compared others so please share what yours are! I am honestly genuinely interested!

I think most people can agree that the Final Fantasy series has given us more than a fair share of amazing music, so even if we don't like the same songs, the music can still bring us together ^_^

Week In Review 1/11 - 1/17

Carry Me Home//The Living Dead  -  Lost Kitten//Metric

Honestly I can't remember worth a crap what happened this week. I played a couple hours of Bayonetta, not getting very far. I didn't get my Thursday post done. We put our sixteen year old dog to sleep on Friday and it's been rough, heck he was older than my little sister. I hate saying it, but I think its been a bit better without him. He was old and was having a rough time. We yelled at the puppies a lot because they liked messing with him and he couldn't make it outside for the most part so I've been spending the last I don't know two years cleaning up his messes everyday.

There was a Nintendo Direct earlier this week, but it wasn't that exciting. The New 3DS got a release date of Feb 13th for NA so look forward to that. I do like the way the Monster Hunter one looks, but I don't have the money for that right now anyways so I'll prolly be waiting for the release of a blue one.

I put in a couple preorders that I need to get around to listing, but most importantly (?) is the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Collector's Edition. I've never played a MH so I'm really looking forward to it plus the CE looked sweet for a cheap price.

Think that about sums it up, but I do hope to have some awesome-ish (for me?) news for next week.

Top Ten - Songs from Final Fantasy XI - XIV

Originally this was going to include XV in the rankings, but since I don't actually know any of the music from it I decided not to include. Maybe I'll do a XV track exclusive TT when the game comes out, but for now I thought it would be unfair to include it when it wasn't represented.

10. Flash of Steel from Final Fantasy XII

I just love how epic this song sounds and it has such a great opening too.

9. Sarutabaruta from Final Fantasy XI

I never played FF XI, but these are the kind of songs that make me want to. Its so simple, but I want to listen to it for hours.

8. Dust to Dust from Final Fantasy XIII

I absolutely adore FF XIII and its soundtrack is one of the reasons why. This song is perfect for this game. The music is so sorrowful. The female vocals are beautiful; the way they are layered make it hard to discern the words and its reminiscent of trying to recall a voice from long forgotten memories. But I love the lyrics too!
Nothing to fear, l'Cie/Cradled in eternity/Shore of sand, your fate awaits/Oh, surrender in the light

7. Ronfaure from Final Fantasy XI

Another amazing XI song. I like this one for the same reasons as the first. It also kinda reminds me of a Renaissance Festival.

6. The Vestige from Final Fantasy XIII

Songs like this are the reason I am completely enamored with XIII's soundtrack. Ambient tracks, organic vocals, distant worlds.

5. Sulyya Springs from Final Fantasy XIII

I love this track for the same reasons as the last one. This one is a bit more peaceful and I wish it played in more areas than the small one it does.

4. Selbina from Final Fantasy XI

I have this weird dream of owning an awesome cafe that looks like The Quicksand, the tavern in Ul'dah from FF XIV, and it will be super rad and geeky and stuff. This is the song that will play when we open every morning. Speaking of Ul'dah, though...

3. To The Sun from Final Fantasy XIV

Much like in this random video, I was mining when I first heard this song. I actually stopped what I was doing, dropped my controller, and sat there for about fifteen minutes absolutely enthralled. Because that's what a good song should do.

2. Hope's Theme from Final Fantasy XIII

Look, I know that just about everyone that played XIII hates Hope. I do too, for the first half of the game at least. But this song... I actually contemplated having this as number one or having no second place and just having a first tie. I'm still wondering if it should trade places. While I would hope (no pun intended, though I did just laugh as I noticed it) that I would have some super metal badass theme, mine would prolly turn out like this. A single instrument, echoing through an empty room, continuing to play despite how it wants to stop, despite how things are happening around it, but it continues to play. It is literally a theme of hope, to me at least. This is the song I listen to when I need to sit in the shower and cry because there's too much shit going on. And when I'm done, I feel better, I have hope.

1. The Gapra Whitewood from Final Fantasy XIII

After everything I wrote in the last song, you may be wondering if I have this awesome reason why this is number one. Not really. Like I said this and Hope's Theme are practically interchangeable as far as places go. The reason this is here is for much of the reasons I listed for others. Ambient music, organic vocals. I put down my controller when I heard it and was transported to another world. And sometimes, that's enough,

~ Zephyr ♥

Thought you guys might be interested in the piano version of The Gapra Whitewood. I love when Square makes these piano collections. The two Kingdom Hearts piano albums they have are some of my favorite albums period.

Review - Bravely Default

Released - 2|7|14

Platform - 3DS

Four strangers meet and have to save the world and defeat bad guys and wait haven't we played this game before?

Now while the summary may sound a bit snarky, don't misunderstand - I freaking love this game. While it's supposed to be a spiritual successor to Final Fantasy The 4 Heroes of Light, which I only played about ten minutes of before getting super bored, I find it as more of a successor to Final Fantasy III.

Bravely Default features a turn based combat style with use of the Brave and Default systems. Brave let's you use up to four negative turns in advance, allowing you to make several moves at once while sacrificing future moves leaving you vulnerable. Default allows you to defend and save up to four moves so you don't have to be in the negative when Braving. This game also features a job system where a character mains in one job and subclasses the moves of another. Characters also unlock passive abilities according to class and can equip these regardless of the current class.

I'm gonna super vague so I don't give away spoilers, but the story was definitely interesting. I know some didn't figure it out for a while, and while I figured out most of it there were a couple things I would not have known had Dae not confirmed my suspicions and pointed out an important detail I failed to notice. However, I did read the 200 page journal given to you at the beginning of the game so I think that was a big part of it. Unfortunately, the game gets repetitive towards the end which really hurts it. Also, I feel I should mention that the game features two endings - one you can get about halfway through the game which is seen as more of the 'bad' ending and a true ending you get from completing the story.

Final Thoughts
While it does get repetitive towards the end, this game is really amazing and if you are a fan of older Final Fantasy games you will especially enjoy this. The art is beautiful, the music is amazing (as per usual), and the gameplay is just plain fun! I hate hate hate grinding, but I leveled all my characters and jobs just because I wanted to. Seriously, give this game a shot.

Score - 8/10

~ Zephyr ♥

Bravely is actually one of my favorite games to come out in 2014. I also got the collector's edition of it so you can check out the unboxing here. I look hideous as per usual :P

Week In Review 1/4 - 1/10

Femmes Fatale//OA

Honestly, I can't even really remember what I did the past week. Lots of YouTube was watched and I spent about 15 hours of the weekend in Final Fantasy XIII livestream which was honestly the most fun I've ever had in a livestream. It was a small group of viewers so there was a lot of interaction between not only the chat and the streamer, but just between all of the chat members themselves which is an experience I haven't had before. Mostly I won't even go in chat because everything gets pushed up pretty fast and well it just generally doesn't matter. But this chat was super fun! Friends were made, rivalries were formed, and I mostly just laughed and went along with it while giving a lot of game advice (when it was needed) because I just know too much about FFXIII because I love that game. That's pretty much it though.

~ Zephyr ♥

I don't know if I said this before, but I beat Borderlands The Pre Sequel like a week or two ago. Honestly, I can't remember when I just know that I did. Does anyone else think that Zarpedon is a Siren? Because I totally do.

Review - Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

Released - 9|30|14

Platform - Arcade, PS3, Xbox 360

Just a day after the events of Persona 4 Arena, a strange red fog rolls into town and General Teddie reappears. With all the townspeople suddenly gone, the Investigation Team and Shadow Operatives need to find the villain that created the P-1 Grand Prix in the first place.

The fighting has undergone a bit of an update, changing some of the characters combos and decreasing damage among other changes. A number of characters have also been added as playable fighters, including the three DLC characters of Adachi, Marie, and Margaret.

I love the way story mode is played in this, compared to its previous installment. The story is divided in three sections. The Persona 4 story starts first and is played in a chapter timeline fashion in which you switch characters throughout the story instead of playing straight through a single perspective. This gets rid of a lot of the repetitive nature of the first game's story. Once you finish the Persona 4 story you move on to the Persona 3 story which follows in suit. Its much easier to 100% this game as the only choice you have to make is at the last chapter of each story, making it so you only have to play each chapter twice, as compared to the choices and joke endings featured before. Once fully completing both stories you unlock the true ending to finish the game. If you have the Adachi DLC character you unlock an additional story, playing through Adachi's point of view.

The true ending and the way the story flows in general fixes one of my bigger complaints from the first game - the story is canon. By canon, I mean that which character defeats who and ultimately wins (in the first one) is not changed as it's played as one big story as opposed to single character stories. The only exception comes with Adachi's story, but that's far better then before.

Final Thoughts
This is still a super fun fighting game. It has all the music and atmosphere of a Persona game, a good story, and a ton of characters to fight as. Even if you haven't played the first game you should still play this one, plus you can buy the first game's story as DLC in game.

Score - 9/10

~ Zephyr ♥

I still yell the character nicknames in an announcer voice while I play. Plus Adachi's name is 'The Egocentric Police Dick' which is a pun and hilarious. But I still love Naoto ♥ But I love Rise too ♥ But mostly Naoto ♥♥♥

Top Ten - Games I'm Looking Forward To In 2015

I know I was kinda in the middle of a Final Fantasy Song Series, but since it is the beginning of a new year I thought I'd share with you guys the games that I am most looking forward to this year - either actually coming out or just getting some more info about them. The song series will continue next week ^_^

10. Dead or Alive 5 Last Round

I have to admit, I love fighting games and Dead or Alive is one of my favorites. I already have Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate for PS3, but I'm all for a next gen update of the game. It includes DLC and two new characters too!

9. Life is Strange

I actually just found out about this one a few days ago. In this five part episodic story, a girl realizes she has the power to rewind time after witnessing an old friend die. And you know, like story and stuff. Yeah. Totally not a rip on Telltale games.... Not at all...

8. Xenoblade Chronicles/Xenoblade Chronicles X

I never got the chance to actually play Xenoblade when it was out for Wii so now that Nintendo is willingly (hopefully) giving us the chance to play it again I'll take it. And the sequel looks pretty rad as well.

7. The Flame in the Flood

I'm kinda more excited for this because I know that I helped make this happen (kickstarter woo!) because this game just looks pretty cool.

6. Moon Hunters

Another game that I kickstarted! I'm actually pretty pumped for this one, a retro looking game where you die over and over and your legacy becomes part of your game's lore. I'm planning on playing the single player Vita version as a Songweaver :D

5. Final Fantasy XV

I'm a huge huge huge Final Fantasy lover and I've been waiting for this since it was announced as XIII Versus like a million years ago.

4. Final Fantasy Type-0

Another Final Fantasy title I've been waiting for! I was super bummed when Type-0 didn't come over to NA and I really thought it never would. But it is! In March! Super excited for it.

3. No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky is a weird one for me. I don't know why, but for as much I want to adventure irl I just don't really care for open world games. I think it has mostly to due with my desire to stick to storylines and finish games quickly before I rage quit, so the fact that I am so into this game is really strange. I mean its freaking huge! And I honestly can't wait.

2. Persona 5

If you are an RPG fan and have never played a Persona game then really you should just stop what you're doing and go play one like right now. If you have played a Persona game, then you already know why it's on this list.

1. Kingdom Hearts III

No matter how hard I try I cannot have this not be number one. Kingdom Hearts is pretty much my favorite series ever and though I would be super sad if this did end up being the last entry in the series, I'm really just so pumped to play another KH game that it doesn't even matter.

What games are you guys looking forward to this year? Let me know below!

~ Zephyr ♥

Seriously, though, like two Final Fantasy titles and a Kingdom Hearts game? If this really happens I think this will be the best year in gaming for me ever.

Review - Final Fantasy XIII

Released - 3|9|10

Platform - Xbox 360, PS3

When branded by an enemies' god, six people will have to fight to survive and save the ones they love while shattering the illusions they believed to be the truth. It's a Final Fantasy game.

Let me say it now, I know that this is by far not the greatest FF games, but damn is it one of my favorites. I can't even give a really good reason why it is when it's alongside my other favorites (III, VI, and X), but gosh darn it I love it to pieces.

Now look, I understand why a lot of people dislike it, but I don't really understand the hate. For the sequels, maybe, but not this first entry. The gameplay is somewhat similar to what we've seen in previous entries with an ATB (active time battle) style combat bar with the edition of your three character party paradigm shifting to one of six classes to maintain an edge in battle. However, this is mostly true for the last half of the game only.

Instead of leveling, characters gain points to fill up their Crystarium, a more linear Sphere Grid styled skill tree. Characters begin with two classes unlocked, gaining a third soon into the story, and the other three about half way through. The story also has you switching between 1-3 character parties as different people join and separate paths until, again, about half way through the story.

There are two main gripes with the game that most people have - the linearity of the game and the battle style. Let's go with linearity first.

Now though I could argue that all FF games are pretty linear in nature, XIII is the extreme in nature. You can't revisit areas, aside from a few places end game, and the only really large area is where ALL the side quests are located. Also, you can't really grind in one place as enemies are not random encounters, though you can just walk in and out of rooms for them to respawn.

The biggest problem people seem to have with the battle system is that you can pretty much auto battle and you only physically control your party leader. For me, this wasn't really an issue. The AI, for me at least, seemed to always pick what I would have chosen regardless - healing who needed healing and dealing with enemy weaknesses - and the auto battle also chooses the best suited in most situations. For me it was more of a time saver, as it would have taken longer for me to find the same commands in the menu, and honestly if you really just wanna pick your own commands or use a full ATB skill you can easily pick them instead of the auto button. And I don't think auto battling takes away from the fun or strategy of battle because you still have to make your paradigm decks and switch accordingly. I personally love quickly switching back and forth from paradigms to quickly build the stagger gauge and get that ATB boost.

Now aside from that let me say I find this game beautiful. The characters are well designed and the environments are carefully crafted. I can't tell you how many times I would just stand around on Gran Pulse and stare at the ground and the backgrounds because they are so gorgeous. And the music! This is seriously one of my favorite gaming soundtracks ever. It has the most amazing beautiful relaxing entrancing ambient tracks that I have ever heard I literally have a playlist I listen to quite often made up of my favorites. Ugh! It's so good! Damn!

Final Thoughts

While the game has definite flaws and is far from perfect, I sincerely recommend giving it a chance.

Score - 7/10

~ Zephyr ♥

So if you are really just dead set against playing this, at least look up some of these tracks from the game that I absolutely adore - The Gapra Whitewood, Sullya Springs, Hope's Theme, Mysteries Abound, The Vestige, Snow's Theme, The Pulse l'Cie. And yes, Lightning is one of favorite video game characters. She was actually my main in Dissidia Duodecim (super rad game). Loved playing her in the Aya Third Birthday DLC costume. You just can't deny how good and badass she looks. Also, Cloud in KH costume just saying.

Week In Review 12/28 - 1/3

Well, not much is happening this week. Between Christmas/New Year's and Dae being down for holiday breaks, not much has really gotten the chance to happen. There's been a bit of Sunset Overdrive now that I've got the tree taken down and cleaned (as it was in the 'gaming room') and Dae bought me Bayonetta as a post-Christmas gift.

I'm super ashamed to say that I didn't watch Zeldathon this past year as my summer was rough, to say the least, and the past few weeks have been a bit hectic. I'm hoping to catch at least a day or so over the summer, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see how that turns out.

I've got all the weekly posts planned out for the rest of the month and all the reviews through like half of March. Music posts are generally done just a week at a time so I'm not to worried about those, but I do need to pull together some Top Tens so if you guys have any suggestions feel free to leave them below.

I think that's about it. Hope you guys are having a good start to the New Year! ^_^

~ Zephyr ♥

Oh, I have a cold. Does that count as something?
